With her authentic style and sound captivating a growing audience, Tikyra, known as the ferocious young drummer and vocalist for Grammy nominated artist Southern Avenue, is making a wave with her funk-driven grooves and emotive lyricism defining her place in the music industry. One could say her journey as a musician and artist began at a young age when she first developed a curiosity into the piano and drums.
Growing up in Memphis, TN, Tikyra,29, was surrounded by gospel and soul music. Her parents, both preachers and musicians themselves, instilled in her a love for all that is the foundation of music today, that being blues, soul, rhythm, and blues. It was around 2015 that Tikyra’s musical career took a pivotal point upon joining forces with the incredible blues guitarist, Ori Naftaly, and divine soul singer, Tiernii Jackson, creating one of the most successful sonic powerhouse super groups, Southern Avenue.
Over the next several years, Southern Avenue released several more albums and embarked on multiple tours while becoming a prominent figure in the Memphis music scene, using their platform to champion the city's rich musical heritage and support up-and-coming artists.
TIkyra has already achieved a great deal of success in the music industry, and her future looks bright as she continues to make a name for herself as a musician and a role model for young women in the industry.
